Claim about Ukrainian recapture
[edit]I'm going to remove the recently added statement that "Governor of Mykolaiv Oblast Vitalii Kim claimed on 22 November 2022 that Ukrainian forces had recaptured almost all of the peninsula, with only three settlements left under Russian control", sourced to this article on TRTWorld. I believe this claim is false, probably a linguistic misunderstanding. First, a recapture of a bridgehead south of the mouth of the Dniepr would presumably be a major strategic win for Ukraine, and other news outlets have not reported anything of the sort. Second, the statement about "only three settlements" doesn't make much sense, because there really are only three settlements on the Peninsula – saying that "only three" are left in Russian hands is effectively saying that the whole of the peninsula is still in Russian hands. So, what the Ukrainian spokesman probably really said was not that they recaptured all of Kinburn "except for three settlements", but that they recaptured all of Mykolaiv Oblast "except for the three settlements on Kinburn. (It may be worth remembering that Ukrainian doesn't have definite articles, so whatever the original wording was, I take it his statement might actually have been grammatically ambiguous between an "except for three settlements" and an "except for the three settlements" reading, so this might really be just a linguistic misunderstanding on the part of the Turkish journalists.) The summary given by TRTWorld, "Ukraine has recaptured almost the entire southern Mykolaiv region on an isolated peninsula off the Black Sea where fighting is ongoing" is also evidently quite confused, as it makes it sound as if all of Mykolaiv oblast was situated on the peninsula, which it obviously isn't.
